The Cumbria LNRS has many uses for a whole range of people and organisations interested in nature recovery. This page gives some ideas of how the LNRS could be used in practice.
Using the LNRS
It's important to use the Statement of Biodiversity Priorities and Local Habitat Map together when using the LNRS as not all potential measures are mappable.
Local Authorities
To inform Local Plans, Green Infrastructure Strategies, and statutory duties.
Developers
To plan habitat creation for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). Post-development interventions in "High" strategic significance areas (as identified by the LNRS) receive a 15% uplift in unit value.
Landowners and managers
To identify opportunities for environmental enhancement and access revenue from Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes, carbon offsetting, or nutrient neutrality.
Private investors
To find ecologically suitable sites for nature-based solutions.
Community groups & residents
To guide local actions in gardens, schools, workplaces, and more that contribute to the wider county network.
Town and Parish Councils
The Nature Recovery Workbook has been developed to help Town and Parish Council to take action for nature that aligns with the LNRS.
